(Houston, Texas, August 10, 2020) GenOn Holdings, Inc. announced today that it has initiated the process to retire coal-fired electric generating Units 1 and 2 located at its Chalk Point generating station located in Aquasco, MD. These 2 coal units comprise approximately 670 megawatts of electric generating capacity. Chalk Point Units 1 and 2 came online in 1964 and 1965, respectively, and have safely and reliably served the electric needs of Maryland and the surrounding area for the past 55 years. The proposed retirement date for Units 1 and 2 is June 1, 2021.
